Mastering two "killer" subjects

SCIENCE and math are fun subjects if a student is passionate and passionate about trying to understand these two 'awesome' subjects.

On the other hand, some students complain that science subjects are difficult to understand and 'scary' especially in basic science such as physics, chemistry and biology, and some even find the subject boring.

Just like math, especially extra math is pretty much 'feared' in the school days.

However, the importance of science and mathematics need not be disputed. It is now a priceless commodity and anyone who has mastered this subject can take over the world.

Everything around us and used is closely linked to science and mathematics.

At a higher scale, science and mathematics help develop human life to live more comfortably.

Skyscrapers, high speed rail transport and smartphones have all been developed through advancement in these two areas.

However, in the pursuit of achieving advanced national status, the target set by the Ministry of Education to reach a 60:40 ratio of science students to literature or social science at the school and university level has not been met.

More recently, the target has not only reached its goals, but the number of students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) subjects has steadily declined over the years.

The recently announced Certificate of Education Malaysia (SPM) 2018, has recently shown a sharp decline in some STEM subjects.

The Ministry of Education confirmed the decline in the number of students taking STEM subjects from 49 percent in 2012 to 44 percent last year.

Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik also explained the average reduction of about 6,000 students each year.
